Tint
A colour made lighter by adding white.
Also: pastel tint
Add white to a colour and the result is a tint. Pink is a tint of red; sky blue is a tint of blue. Tints are paler and softer than the starting colour, and usually a little cooler. House-paint shops use the word in another way: tinting means adding small amounts of strong colourant to a white base to reach the chosen shade. In printing, a tint is an area printed in dots at less than full strength, such as a 20 per cent tint of black, which looks light grey.
