Sources and picture credits
Rang stands on the work of volunteers who document the world in the open.
Facts
Wikidata (public domain, CC0) and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every colour page and country overview links to the article and the record it was written from.
Wording and attribution
Rang does not copy text. Colour pages and country overviews take their facts from the Wikipedia article named at the foot of each page and are rewritten in Rang's own words. A check compares each page with its source; any page that carries over more than a short phrase is rewritten before it is shown. Because the pages are adapted from Wikipedia, they credit the article and its contributors, link to the original, and are shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.
Pictures
All photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Only freely licensed images are used: public domain, CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA. Each photo is credited beside it with its author and licence and links to its page on Commons. Small pictures in lists, cards and strips are credited at the foot of the page they appear on, under "Photo credits on this page", with the author, the licence and a link to the source. Photos may be resized; no other changes are made. If a photo is yours and should not be here, write to us and it will be taken down.
Colour values
Values in the swatch book come from Wikipedia's list of colours and its list of the traditional colours of Japan; each swatch links to its source. Values on colour pages come from the same lists, from Wikidata, or from the article's own information box. Values for festivals, cities and emotions are approximations chosen by the Rang desk. RGB, HSL and CMYK figures, harmonies, contrast ratios and colour-blindness views are worked out from the hex value by standard formulas.
Emotions, meanings by country, colour cities, the calendar, concepts and the glossary
Original text by the Rang desk, written with AI assistance. Each page lists its sources, and each note on what a colour means in a country links to a Wikipedia article that backs it. Festival dates are worked out by rule (fixed dates, Easter, and the Hebrew, Islamic, Chinese, Persian and Ethiopian calendars); days set by other lunisolar calendars use published dates. Islamic dates depend on the sighting of the moon and can shift by a day.
Good reading
The articles listed under "Good reading" on a colour page are ones its Wikipedia article cites, from museums, universities and well-known publishers. Rang shows the headline and the publisher and links to the original; it does not copy the article.
Map
Country outlines are from Natural Earth (public domain).
News
The news wire shows only a headline and the outlet's name. Every link leads to the original publisher.
