Pastel
A pale, soft colour with a lot of white in it, such as baby pink or mint green.
Also: pastel colour, soft colour
Pastel colours are light tints of low to medium strength: powder blue, lilac, peach, primrose. The name comes from pastel sticks, an artist's material made of pigment and chalk that gives a soft, powdery mark. Pastels are linked in many countries with spring, babies and sweets, and with certain periods of design, such as the 1950s and the hotels of Miami Beach. In hot, bright climates they are practical for buildings, since pale walls reflect heat and fade less noticeably than strong colours.
