Vert
The heraldic name for green.
Also: green (heraldry)
Vert is simply the French for green. It is less common in old coats of arms than red, blue or black, though it appears often in the arms of places with forests and in later grants. In uncoloured drawings it is shown by diagonal lines running from upper left to lower right. Green is prominent in many modern national flags, particularly in Africa, South Asia and the Muslim world, where it carries meanings quite separate from European heraldry.
