HDR
Picture technology that shows a wider range from dark to bright than standard screens.
Also: high dynamic range
High dynamic range refers to images and screens that can show much brighter highlights and deeper shadows at once than older standards allowed. A sunset, a flame or a reflection on metal can be shown closer to how it looks in life. HDR video usually comes with a wider colour gamut and more steps per colour, which reduces banding in smooth areas such as skies. In photography the term also describes combining several exposures of one scene so that detail survives in both the brightest and the darkest parts.
