Argent
The heraldic name for silver, almost always shown as white.
Also: silver (heraldry), white (heraldry)
Argent comes from the Latin for silver. In heraldry it is one of the two metals, and it is usually painted as plain white, since real silver leaf tarnishes to black. On flags derived from coats of arms, white normally stands for argent. In drawings without colour it is shown by leaving the area blank. Argent is often taken to suggest peace and sincerity, but such meanings were added by later writers and were never part of the rules.
